First look: Mr. Freeze brings a chill to ‘Gotham'

Gotham is under a major Freeze warning.
After introducing modern incarnations of infamous Batman comic-book supervillains such as Penguin and Riddler, the Fox TV series debuts its next one, Mr. Freeze, Monday tonight in the fall finale (8 ET/PT). Fans will get a glimpse at Wayne Enterprises cryogenics engineer Victor Fries, played by Nathan Darrow (House of Cards), before his bigger story begins to be told when the show comes back Feb. 29.
The new episode revolves around Gotham City cop Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) rounding up a posse to save Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) after he’s kidnapped by the nefarious Theo Galavan (James Frain).
Fries is going to make his full presence — and his freeze gun — felt very quickly, though Darrow notes that folks will have to wait till the winter break ends to see his full struggle in saving his terminal ill wife Nora (Kristen Hager) and the toll it takes on him.
A seasoned stage actor in New York City and his hometown Kansas City, Darrow checked in with USA TODAY last week while finishing up his third episode on the show — “And I’m still alive,” he quips — to talk about his take on Mr. Freeze and what he adds to Gotham’s antagonistic contingent.
